About OpenDark?
OpenDark is a simplification of dark, which is open source.
It had been created with hope that everybody would be able to make some remarks and additions
to it and together we make it many time more powerfull it's today!
The following developing directions are welcomed:
What the hell it is?
Dark is a command line block compressor. The scheme BWT-DC means that on
the first stage it uses Burrows-Wheeler Transform (see BWT FAQ) and on the
second stage it uses Distance Coding (there is no official description, but
you can look into http://compression.ru).
While 'dark' has similar to well-known archivers (ybs, grzipii) compression
ratio, it's main advantage is awesome speed.
Memory requirements: 5N (for some older versions may be 6N), where N = block size.
On the most of inputs the more the block - the better is the compression.
